Mangalore, Mar 29 (UNI) Renowned space scientist and National Institute for Advanced Studies Director Dr Kasturirangan today said the youngsters should be encouraged to pursue studies in science.
Inaugurating ''Science Express'', a state-of-the-art science exhibition on wheels, which arrived here, Dr Kasturirangan said the progressive growth of science had not only expanded knowledge but also provided new dimension to human life.
The advancement in science had helped us to know more about new challenges of environmental issues such as climatic changes.
''India is reckoned globally as a scientifically developed country, which had excelled in several areas including IT, BT, automobile, manufacturing sectors and space technology. We are now a role model to other nations,'' he said.
He said the Department of Science and Technology (DST) had now introduced a scheme for sending Indian students to Germany under an exchange programme, which would provide the students an opportunity to interact with Nobel laureate scientists.
The DST also planned to set up science laboratories throughout the country for the benefit of student community, he added.
