Hubli, Mar 29: Eight people, including police personnel, were injured when rival groups clashed in Yattiangudda village on the outskirts of Dharwad city last night.
Police said rivalry between two families of the village led to the clash. The trouble started on the concluding day of the Durga Devi Fair in the village when members of 'Chandra Tegur' family attacked the members of 'Parasannavar,' the other family, with gun and other deadly weapons. Both the groups opened fire at each other.
The injured were admitted to Dharwad district hospital and Karnataka Institute of Medical Sciences here. The police, who arrived on the scene, were also attacked. Deputy Commissioner of Police D Prakash and police Inspector Sakri also received injuries. The Inspector was admitted to SDM College Hospital. Police arrested 20 people in connection with the incident.
Senior police officials, including Commissioner of Police Narayan Nadamani, visited the village where the situation was stated to be tense but under control.
