8 bloated bodies recovered from Bhakra Canal

Karnal, Mar 29: Eight bloated bodies were found floating today in the Bhakra Canal near Katchua village in the district. Karnal SSP A S Chawla told the sources that the bodies could be of a nine-member family which had been missing for some days. Later, a suicide note was recovered from their house.

Since the missing family belonged to Pehowa village through which the canal passes before reaching here, it was being surmised that the family could have committed suicide by jumping into the canal and the bodies had now travelled down the stream.

''If that is the case, there could be one more body in the canal but we are taking caution in the attempts to look for it as the water level is high and the current is very strong,'' he said.

SHO Pehowa has been called to identify the bodies.

However, if the bodies, which were in bad shape due to bloating, could not be identified by the Pehwa SHO, then the samples for DNA tests would be taken during the autopsy, the SSP said.
