Visakhapatnam, Mar 28 (UNI) Simbex-08, a joint naval exercise between the Indian Navy and the Republic of Singapore drew to a close when their ships returned to the Harbour, to mark the visit of Republic of Singapore Navy(RSN) Squadron Lieutenant Colonel Timothy Lo to the Eastern Naval Command(ENC) here today.

In a release here, the ENC said Coloney Timothy Lo called on Vice Admiral R P Suthan, Flag Officer, Commanding-in-chief(ENC). The Indian Navy said inter-operability was achieved through the exercises.

Simbex, AB Acribym for Singapore-India Maritime bilateral exercises', was an Institutionalised series of regular exercises, conducted annually between the Indian Navy and the Singapore Navy.

The sea-phase concentrated on exercises from surface firings and anti-aircraft engagements to anti-submarin warfare and evolutions, involving the deployment and coordination of Martime patrol aircraft, as well as shore-based fighters.

The Indian Navy emphasised on enhancing and sustaining bilateral ties and also on improving understanding with regional navies, through simbex series.

The exercises, apart from providing training to personnel, also assist in fostering trust and amity between the two nations to tackle challenges within the Martime domain, the release added.
