Mumbai, Mar 28 (UNI) The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation will conduct a demolition drive to bring down illegal structures in the city with the help of Mumbai Police.

Additional Municipal Commissioner Manu Kumar Srivastav today said the Corporation has not been able to conduct demolition of illegal constructions on several occasions due to the non-availability of policemen for the security of the BMC squad.

''The Corporation has to seek the services of police on contract basis for each and every demolition undertaken in the city, thereby hindering the process to a large extent,'' Mr Srivastav said.

The Corporation has decided to build private police stations that will be used exclusively for the demolition purposes and officials will put on deputation in Municipal wards to undertake demolition in the city and organise crack down on illegal hawkers and pavement sellers.

Mr Srivastav added that once the Corporation is successful in establishing police stations and have officials on deputation, the drive will be conducted on a large scale.
