Islamabad, Mar 27: Pakistan President Gen (retd) Pervez Musharraf has declared the February 18 election ''a victory of moderate forces'' and stated that the new government is determined to fight terrorism in all its forms.
Talking to a six-member US Congressional delegation led by Congressman John F Tierney here yesterday, the President stressed the importance of political stability to ensure economic growth, social development and security of the country. President Musharraf welcomed the US pledge to support the FATA Development Plan, designed to promote socio-economic development in the tribal areas.
The Congressional delegation congratulated the President on the successful conduct of the general election and expressed support of the United States for the democratic transition. It lauded his efforts over the past several years for political stability and economic revival in the country.
The members discussed recent political developments, regional situation and underlined the need for deepening and broadening bilateral trade and investment ties besides enhancing market access between the two countries.
