New Delhi, Mar 28: Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit today said the Delhi Government was working to firm up the policy for in situ rehabilitation of slum dwellers in various parts of Delhi.

''We are trying to firm up the policy for in situ rehabilitation of slum dwellers in Delhi. We realise that it is unrealistic to rehabilitate slum dwellers with their original habitat located in, say, East Delhi, in an area like Outer Delhi, which would necessitate them to travel long distances for frequenting to their workplaces in their original habitats,'' she said in a reply during Question Hour in the Legislative Assembly. At the same time, the Chief Minister said that the formulation of n in situ rehabilitation policy for slum dwellers would take some time due to multiple authorities involved in its various aspects.

''Due to the multiplicity of authorities, the formulation of the policy is taking some time. But we are committed to implementing it,'' the Chief Minister said.

In this context, she said many sites for in situ rehabilitation of slum dwellers in East Delhi areas had been identified in trans Yamuna localities.

''Letters to identify various sites for in situ rehabilitation of slum dwellers in the city were sent a few months ago to various agencies involved in Development of Delhi like the DDA and the MCD.

A meeting of the agencies will be held in the coming months for finalises the sites and formulate the policy,''Ms Dikshit said.
