Tiruchirapalli, Mar 28 (UNI) People's awareness about their rights is increasing day-by-day and it is a welcome trend, according to State Human Rights Commission member A R Selvakumar.
Talking to UNI here today, Mr Selvakumar, who is here in connection with the Commission's sitting to hear human rights violation cases, said the awareness should increase further, in order to bring down human rights violation incidents.
Though the Tamil Nadu Government and other agencies were extending patronage to the Commission, they should take pro-active steps to create more awareness among the people about their rights.
To a question, he said the Commission had received nearly 10,500 complaints during last year of which it had taken cognisance action on more than 1,000 complaints.
The Commission had received about 3,000 complaints so far this year, he added.
