Kendrapara, Mar 27 (UNI) Three families in Mahakalpada block of the district in Orissa have been ostracised by the villagers for their alleged involvement in the kidnapping of a teenaged girl.
Reportedly, three families of Ekalpur village under Mahakalapada block were ostracised by the villagers for kidnapping the daughter of one Surendra Swain on March 4.
The decision to socially boycott the three families were unanimously taken at a village meeting after the three families did not respond to the repeated requests by the villagers to return the girl. Even an FIR lodged by the girl's father failed to yield any result.
The villagers then barred the three families from entering the village temple, drawing water from the village tube well, using the bathing ghat and purchasing grocery from the village shopkeepers, sources said.
Even the priests, washermen and barbers in the village were asked by the committee not to provide their services to the families. The village committee also imposed a ''fatwa'' saying that any villager, who would mingle with these families violating the decision would be fined.
