UHBVN to release 31,146 new domestic connections

Chandigarh, Mar 27 (UNI) The Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (UHBVN) would release 31,146 new domestic connections to the people living below poverty line in the villages of the district Jind under the Rajiv Gandhi Grameen Vidyutikaran Yojna.

A spokesman said here today that the Rural Electrification Corporation (REC) has sanctioned Rs 13.30 crore to carry out various developmental activities in the district under the scheme which included erection of 80 km. long 11 kv lines, installation of 447 distribution transformers, erection of 48 km. long aerial bunched cable and installation of meters on all the 447 distribution transformers.

He said that a sum of Rs.55.86 crore has been sanctioned for carrying out these activities in the villages of district Jind, Panchkula, Ambala, Yamunanagar, Kurukshetra, Kaithal and Jhajjar.

Thirty percent of the total sanctioned amount would be released by the REC in the first phase.

The Nigam would apprise the activities, progress and achievements to the quarters concerned from time to time.

After release of the full amount Rs. 55.86 crore and satisfactory completion of the works, 90 per cent of the amount will be granted for the Nigam. All the works will be executed on turn-key basis and tenders will be floated for the purpose shortly.

Earlier, a sum of Rs 48.48 crore had been sanctioned for district Karnal, Panipat, Sonipat and Rohtak by the REC. The Nigam has already allocated the works to the successful bidders for carrying out the activities in the villages of these districts.

The main objective of the scheme is to strengthen power infrastructure particularly the distribution network in the villages and ensure 'Power to All- by 2012'.

He further stated that the new connection to the people living below poverty line will be released free of cost.

The Nigam has also decided to give two energy saver CFLs free of cost to the applicants under the scheme. The Nigam is also giving free of cost electricity connections to the Government Schools in the villages under the scheme, he added.
