Srinagar, Mar 27: Three persons, including two militants were killed while security forces averted a major tragedy in the Kashmir valley overnight, official sources said today.
They said troops of 14 Rashtriya Rifle (RR) killed a militant in an encounter at Kota Satri Forests in north Kashmir during a search operation. One AK rifle, three magazines and 67 rounds of ammunition were recovered from the slain militant.
Another militant was gunned down by troops of 6-Grenadiers at Keran. One AK-47 rifle, three AK Magazines, 6 rounds of ammunition, one wire cutter, one Ruck Sack and one Pouch were recovered from the slain militant.
A police spokesman said one 82 mm mortar shell was found near old bridge at Kupwara which was later defused by the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) without causing any damage.
He said a bullet riddled body of an unidentified person was recovered from Rangil Ganderbal. The body was taken away by police for identification.
