Sonia hands over modified scooters to physically challenged
New Delhi, Mar 27 (UNI) AICC president and Rajiv Gandhi Foundation chairperson Sonia Gandhi today handed over 75 modified scooters to physically challenged people here.
The modified scooters or 'motorised vehicles' were given away to people selected from across the country. Of the 75 awardees, 40 were women.
The RGF has been able to raise sponsorships for 145 such vehicles which is a record since the inception of the programme in 1992, the foundation said. The first batch of 75 vehicles were distributed on August 20, 2007 to mark birth anniversary of late Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.
The modified scooter, called Bingo, is a modified version of a self-start, gearless 135 cc scooter. It is completely hand controlled and has two additional tyres for better stability. It also has a canopy and a wind shield along with a luggage compartment.
