Kohima, Mar 27 (UNI) Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio today appreciated the Opposition Congress MLAs for their constructive suggestions on various matters in the Assembly.
Replying to the discussion on budget 2008-2009, Mr Rio claimed that though the overall law and order situation was peaceful, some sinister elements taking advantage of the withdrawal of security forces, were resorting to unlawful acts.
He said the available para-military forces, especially the Assam Rifles and CRPF, would be deployed in the vulnerable areas with round-the-clock patrol to thwart the miscreants.
Mr Rio also informed the House that according to reports, as many as 60 businessmen were kidnapped during the President's rule, adding the miscreants took full advantage of the absence of popular government.
Mr Rio said the DAN government's power policy would continue with more hydel power projects during the 11th plan.
The requirement of power would go up to 320 MW till the completion of the Doyang Hydel power project phase-II and some other hydel projects of the state to bring self-sufficiency in power, he added.
The DAN government would support any unification or reconciliation move to unite all the members of the Naga family, the minister said.
He also reminded that all the members of the House had taken oath in the name of the Constitution and appealed them to follow the provisions of it at any cost.
