Mumbai, Mar 27 (UNI) Acrimonious situation prevailed in the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly and an angry Opposition, led by Leader of the Opposition Ramdas Kadam and BJP leader Gopinath Munde, continued to sit in the well of the House even after the House was adjourned for the day.
The Opposition members, while stating that Finance Minister Jayant Patil had allocated Rs five crore for the developmental works in the constituencies of NCP MLAs, demanded that the same should be made available to all the 288 legislators irrespecitive of their party affiliations.
The Opposition entered the well of the House over the demand even as the discussion on the budget was underway.
In his reply, Mr Patil said he had heeded the request of the legislators who had approached him with proposals of the works to be undertaken in the constituencies. He said the others too could approach him in this regard.
This irked the Oppsotion and pandemonium prevailed in the House and had to be adjourned thrice.
Mr Munde objected to the Minister's statement that he had had done the work of those who had approached him. Mr Munde said there 110 legislators who belong to the Opposition parties and it is wrong to deprive them of the same benefits as that of the treasury bench members.
Mr Munde proposed that a meeting be held immediately to be attended by the Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister, Speaker, and Leader of the Opposition on this issue. He was supported by Mr Kadam who said that the Opposition members would continue to sit in the House even if it was adjourned for the day.
Amidst this, the Speaker adjourned the House for the day around 1800 hrs. However, all Opposition members continued to sit in the well of the House.
