Kapurthala Mar 27 (UNI) The city observed complete bandh with all commercial establishments remaining closed today to protest against the government decision to build the new judicial-cum-district administrative complex at village Nurpur Dona, 7 kms from the town.
However Banks, schools and government offices functioned normally and the buses plied as usual.
The bandh call was given by the action committee formed by residents to oppose the government decision.
The bandh passed off peacefully without any untoward incident as the shopkeepers voluntarily closed their establishments.
The residents are demanding the construction of new judicial-cum-administrative complex within the city as the land was available in the town. They claimed that the common man would have to face hardships in approaching the new complex which is situated at an isolated place .
Action committee convener Jaswinder Singh Batra told media persons that they have decided to intensity the struggle in the interest of the town as the business would be ruined in case the new complex was constructed at village Nurpur Dona.
The action committee, comprising prominent residents, political leaders, traders, social and voluntary organisations and various unions of shopkeepers, also decided to observe April 4 as a black day on the day of foundation stone laying ceremony of the new complex at village Nurpur Dona.
