Kolkata, Mar 27 (UNI) Refusing to die down, Avian flu, that bounced back in parts of West Bengal for the second time in a month, broke out in Jalpaiguri district prompting the authorities today to order mass culling.
Animal Resource Development Minister Anisur Rahman said the disease was proved positive following laboratory test of the blood samples of the poultry chickens, which died in hundreds in the Mangalaghat gram panchayat area.
He said the notification in this regard had already been issued both by Centre and the state government.
" Our officials are ascertaining how the area has been infected by the virus, " he said.
District Magistrate R Ranjit said the blood samples of the infected birds had been sent for test in Bhopal.
Meanwhile, district authorities, which held an emergency meeting, decided to start culling of at least 48,000 birds from tomorrow.
Zila Sabhadhipati Banamali Roy said the area of culling had been identified.
Bird Flu had resurfaced in Malda and Murshidabad districts a few days ago resulting in a massive culling of poultry birds.
