Panaji, Mar 27 (UNI) The government is likely to announce its sports policy which it has framed and sent for fine tuning by the director of education, Sports Minister Manohar Azgaonkar told the state legislative assembly, here today.

Replying to a starred question of Ms Victorial Fernandes (Congress), he said the National Games-2011 will be held in Goa as per schedule.

He said that the government is yet to receive the prize money due for the Junior Asian Boxer Championship held in 2006. The prize money to be given to the winners would be disbursed shortly.

The government will also finalise the candidate for the Jivaba Dada Kerkar award within three months, he added.

To another question of Mr Francis D'Souza, the minister said Goa has not yet received grants for the National Games-2011, but is going ahead with the land acquisition at Neura village where 15 lakh square metre of land had been identified.

The process of assessing the feasibility of utilisation of availability of sports infrastructure in keeping with the latest technical norms of the concerned sports disciplines are under scrutiny, he said.

Efforts are being taken to ensure that requisite infrastructure is kept ready well before the schedule for the National Games.

Meanwhile, the government is also examining a complaint against the Director of Sports Authority of Goa regarding alleged irregularity in material procurement and drawing of his salaries.
