Panaji, Mar 27 (UNI) Chief Minister Digambar Kamat today refrained from moving a ''motion of confidence'' in favour of Speaker Pratapsingh Rane and Deputy Speaker Mauvin Godhinho on the advice of BJP opposition leader Manohar Parrikar not to set a bad precedence.
''It should be the other way. There was no provision for the treasury benches to move the motion of confidence. It is for the opposition to move the no-confidence motion,'' Mr Parrikar told the Legislative Assembly when the issue figured in the House after the question hour.
Mr Parrikar had urged the Speaker not to set a precedent in the House. He said he was aware of the fact that removal of the presiding officer of the House required a set procedure and he did not like it to happen in Goa for the first time.
The opposition leader, before the commencement of the current budget session, had served the notices of ''no-confidence motion'' against the duo but it was not considered by the Speaker's Office.
He had even sought intervention of Governor S C Jamir for directing the Speaker to admit the motion in the current session of the House and threatened to approach the Supreme Court if the Governor failed to do justice under the provisions of the Constitution.
