2.62 lakh units set up under REGP in JK
Srinagar, Mar 27: An amount of Rs 7985 crore has been invested to set up 2.62 lakh units for providing employment to 39.68 lakh unemployed under Rural Employment Generation Programme (REGP), which is a flagship programme of Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC).
This information was given during the day-long workshop on product development, design, intervention, packaging and Rural Industries Service Centre here.
An official spokesman said that during 2006-07, about 26,087 projects have been funded creating employment for 5.95 lakh persons in the Jammu and Kashmir. So far, about 2.62 lakh units have been set up under REGP providing employment to 39.68 lakh with an investment of Rs 7985 crore.
Besides, providing infrastructure to the local units to upgrade their production capacity, skills and market promotion, the unit holders are provided raw material, support, skill upgradation, training quality control, testing facilities design and product development in order to strength the rural cluster are the aims of the programme.
He said KVIC aims to make Khadi and Village Industries products more compatible to the changing global fashion and technology.
