Women activists stage demonstration,demand Speaker's resignation
Puri, Mar 26 (UNI) Women activists of the city, cutting across party lines, today staged a protest demonstration before the Collector's office demanding resignation of Orissa Speaker Maheswar Mohanty in the wake of sexual harassment allegation against him by lady marshal.
They said the Speaker had abused his position to sexually exploit a lady subordinate staff of his office and asked him to step down.
The women who brought out a rally shouting slogans against the Speaker, later submitted a memorandum to the Collector addressed to the Governor urging him to initiate criminal proceeding against Mr Mohanty.
The Congress workers also organised a protest demonstration in front of the Sri Jagannath temple and burnt the Speaker in effigy demanding his ouster and initiation of criminal action for the alleged sexual harassment.
