Two lac BSNL workers walkout from duty for an hour in protest
New Delhi, Mar 26 (UNI) More than two lakh Non-executive workers of the BSNL today staged a walkout from duty for an hour to ''protest against the discriminatory treatment '' meted out to them by the management.
The workers abstained from work from 1100 to 1200 hrs at BSNL offices across the country, said V A N Namboodiri, Convenor of the BSNL Employees Union.
''The company follows a policy of complete discrimination between the Executives and Non-executives. While the Executives get five promotions after every five years, only two promotions are given to the Non-executives in their entire career,'' he said.
While the promotions are effective for Executives from 2004, the cut-off is 2007 for Non-executives, Mr Namboodiri said. Fixation benefits, given to Executives are also denied to the workers, he pointed out.
He further said the Union had taken up the issue with the Telecom Ministry and the CMD but nothing had been done in this regard.
He added a decision to go on a strike will be taken later.
