2 murderers get life term and one gets 8 years RI

Shillong, Mar 26: A local court awarded life term to two persons involved in murder while another killer got eight years' RI in Meghalaya, court officials said today.

In the first case, sessions judge of Shillong Court Sudip Ranjan Sen sentenced two persons to life imprisonment for the murder of a tourist taxi driver Gautam Gurung on December 12, 2005.

The two were identified as Nabam Tai and Jotin Rabha. The duo murdered the driver and later took his vehicle to Karbi Anglong district of Assam. However, the Assam police detected the vehicle and subsequently arrested them. Both Tai and Rabha were handed to Meghalaya police.

In another case, Shillong Additional District and Sessions Judge Wanlura Diengdoh sentenced one Ahil Ali to eight years' rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 5000 for murdering his wife in July 2003.

In default of payment of the imposed fine, the accused will have to undergo jail for another three months.

Ali was arrested soon after he committed the crime and booked under section 320 of IPC. Both the sentences were delivered yesterday.
