Hubli, Mar 26 (UNI) Tension prevailed in Byadgi town in Haveri district about 80 km from here as two groups indulged in stone pelting and ransacked a government hospital.
Additional Superintendent of Police Manjunath said the trouble started yesterday during concluding day of Holi today as part of Ranga Panchami celebrations there was some disturbance following desecration of an idol.
Prohibitory order under section 144 cr pc has been clamped in the town and police were not allowing people to move in groups, he said.
Today being a Holi concluding day, public picked up argument with police when they were refused permission to move in groups and began pelting stones at the police.
They ransacked the hospital when they were denied permission to see the two persons injured in stone pelting.
Senior police officers have rushed to the village with additional force.
