State HRC to hear petition against police in Raj case on April 4
Mumbai, Mar 26 (UNI) A group of social activists, including Medha Patkar, today urged the State Human Rights Commission to ask the State Government to institute a probe into the alleged lapses by the police in initiating timely action against Maharashtra Navnirman Sena chief Raj Thackeray, leading to widespread violence in the state.
Advocate Y P Singh, representing Ms Patkar and the others, informed that Government pleader Ajay Mishra had sought time to reply following which Commission members Kshritij Vyas and Subhash Lala granted time and fixed April 4 for hearing on the matter.
The petition filed by the social activists said that the delinquent police officers should provide compensation from their own resources to those persons who had suffered losses in the riotings.
The social activists have alleged that the Commissioner of Police and the Director General of Police had treated the matter very lightly.
