SMCs to be installed in 18 railway stations
Chennai, Mar 26: Union Railway Minister for state R Velu said Smart Card Machines (SCM) will be installed in 18 railway stations across the state.
While inagurating an SCM at the Central Railway station here yesterday, he said each railway station in Tamil Nadu will have two SCMs each, in order to ensure a hassel free ticketing experience for the passengers.
Mr Velu disclosed that the initial phase of the MRTS project between Velacheri and St Thomas Mount had started, at a cost of Rs 395 crore. This phase will cover the three kilometer stretch between Velacheri and Puzhuthivakkam.
A sum of Rs 25 crore has been alloted for an additional railway track in the Thiruvallur-Arakkonam route, he added.
