Jammu, Mar 26 (UNI) The branch of Jammu and Kashmir bank was looted by some unidentified persons yesterday afternoon in Thannamandi town of bordering Rajouri district, official sources here said today.

Some unidentified persons decamped with more than Rs 10 lakh from the branch after attacking the cashier, sources told UNI.

''The bank authorities claimed that some unidentified persons threw chilli powder into the eyes of the cashier and decamped with Rs 10.06 lakh,'' sources said adding that involvement of inner staff cannot be ruled out behind the incident.

Sources said that cashier identified as Nazir Ahmed was looted when he had gone to collect money from the bank's strong room in the same building.

''The robbers overpowered him and threw chilli powder into his eyes. They looted the amount and fled away leaving the cashier unconscious,'' police sources said adding, ''the bank cashier was rushed to the district hospital where his condition was stated to be stable.'' ''Not ruling out the possibility of hands of insiders we are investigating the case on various lines,'' a senior police officer said.
