Queen Victoria makes maiden stopover at Cochin Port

Kochi, Mar 26 (UNI) The majestic M V Queen Victoria, one of the most famous cruise liners in the world, today made its maiden visit to Cochin Port.

The vessel arrived here from Chennai at 0700 hrs with about 1800 tourists and 1000 crew and left for Mumbai at 1745 hrs.

On the cruise liner's arrival, the tourists were given a traditional welcome. During their short stay in Kochi, the tourists visited places of interest in and around the city by buses and boats.

Capt Subash Kumar, Dy Chairman, Cochin Port, and other senior port officers greeted Captain Christopher Rynd and exchanged plaques to mark the maiden call of the vessel at Cochin.

During the ceremony, Mr Rynd remarked that Cochin was the most beautiful port in this part of the world and appreciated the efforts made by the port trust for a hassle-free visit by the vessel and its tourists.

Queen Victoria is the 40th cruise vessel to call at Cochin Port during the current financial year. Two more vessels were expected to call arrive here this month.

Next month, eight cruise vessels were expected to visit Cochin, including Columbus, Silver Whisper, Crystal Symphony and Europa.

With 990 staterooms, Queen Victoria has a gross gonnage 90,000 tons. It is 294 metres long, 32.3 metres wide and has a draft of 7.9 metres and a height of 54.5 metres.

It has the capacity to accommodate 2,000 guests.
