Patna, Mar 26 (UNI) Bihar Water Resource-cum-Parliamentary affairs Minister Ramashray Prasad Singh today inaugrated the website of Flood Management Information System (FMIS) here.
Speaking on the occasion. Mr Singh said, '' It is a golden day for the Water Resources department as this website will connect the whole world exchanging information about flood''.
He reiterated that the future belonged to information system in which the role of internet and website was very crucial.
Some of the salient features of this website included the flood inundation maps of Sitamarhi, Darbhanga, Madhubani, Muzafarpur, Sheohar, Begusarai, Samastipur, East Champaran, Supaul, Saharsa and Khagaria districts as well as daily flood bulletin, water level of rivers, rainfall forecast and rainfall in Nepal and North Bihar.
It would also inform about the breach in the embankments and the map showing the flood-affected areas, the Minister said adding link to other websites related to flood and weather was also available in this website.
He maintained that this website will be very useful in providing flood information up to the village level.
Even people residing in country like America might avail information related to flood about their villages.
District and state level officers will be in a better position to collect information regarding flood for effective flood management, he informed.
'' FMIS Cell has helped Disaster Management Department to a great extent in relief management and it will help in deciding critical anti-erosion works before flood 2008, '' he added.
