Kozhikode, Mar 26 (UNI) Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) officials seized 11 kg of heroin worth Rs 110 million and arrested three persons including a Train Ticket Examiner (TTE) in this connection here and the neighbouring Malappuram district.
Disclosing details of the biggest ever haul in Kerala, Additional Director Rama Mathew told reporters here today that the officials, acting on a tip off, seized five kg of the contraband from the premises of one of the arrested Habeeb Rahman, the kingpin of the racket, in the city yesterday.
In a follow up raid, the rest of the contraband was seized from Edvannappara in Malappuram, she said.
Further investigation had revealed that the contraband was sourced from drug rings operating in Kota district of Rajasthan and was transported by other accused Kiran Kumar and Gursharan Singh Rattan of West Central Railway by Rajdhani Express on March 24, she said.
Both of them were natives of Kota district, she said.
Habeeb, who was also involved in a murder case and currently on bail, used to smuggle it through carriers to Dubai and Jeddah in Saudi Arabia and also distribute it in smaller packets to retailers in the district, she said.
