London, Mar 26 : French President Nicolas Sarkozy has Brit courtiers fuming after asking to see the list of wines to be served when he dines with Queen Elizabeth II.
The President and his new wife Carla Bruni will be attending a state banquet at Windsor Castle on Mar 26, and Sarkozy's request has not gone down well.
"It's a bizarre request. Even the most demanding French palate could not be disappointed by the choice of wines at Windsor Castle," The Sun quoted a senior insider, as saying.
What's being seen as even more odd is the knowledge that the French president is teetotaller i.e. he doesn't touch liquor.
However, Sarkozy's request has been accepted, revealed a spokesman for Buckingham Palace who confirmed that the wines had been chosen "in consultation" with the Elysee Palace.
Windsor Castle's wine cellar was installed in the early 17th century and houses some of the world's most exclusive vintages.
