Patna, Mar 26 (UNI) Internationally acclaimed physician and veteran of many a political battles Dr C P Thakur today made his maiden entry into the Upper House of Parliament.
Though Dr Thakur, once the personal physician of legendary socialist leader Jayprakash Narayan, had become member of the Rajya Sabha for the first time in his political career, he had been the member of the Lok Sabha for three terms from Patna.
For the first time, he became member of the Lower House in 1984 as Congress candidate.
He was again elected to the Lok Sabha in 1998 and 1999 on the BJP ticket.
Born on September three in 1931 in Muzaffarpur district, Dr Thakur was a former Minister at the Centre.
He was Minister from 1999 to 2004 in the BJP government.
He was educated at Patna Medical College, Patna University, Royal College of Physicians, London and Royal College of Physicians, Edinburgh and Royal College of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, London.
Dr Thakur revolutionised the concept of treatment of Kala-azar and was recognised as an international authority in this field.
