New Delhi, Mar 25 (UNI) Custom officials arrested a 42-year-old Philippines national at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport here for concealing capsules of heroin in his body.
Commissioner of Customs, IGI Airport, M D Singh said the sleuths of Customs Air Intelligence Unit intercepted Ronaldo Garcia Elsenique, travelling from Kabul to Kuala Lumpur, minutes before he was to board an Indian Airlines flight to Malaysian capital yesterday.
He said the passenger's movement were suspicious and was kept under strict watch.
On sustained questions, Elsenique admitted that he was carrying capsules of heroin in his body, Mr Singh added.
He said the passenger was taken for medical examination in a city hospital where the capsules containing heroin were being recovered.
The Commissioner said the Custom officials had earlier seized 10 kg of heroin concealed in a waist belt from a person on February 20 this year and a Nepali national carrying heroin capsules in his body was apprehended on February 29.
During the current financial year, Custom officials have interdicted at the IGI Airport eight drug couriers who had concealed narcotics in their bodies, he added.
In this financial year, Mr Singh said Custom officials at the IGI Airport arrested 27 people under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and seized 32 kg of heroin, 13 kg of hashish and 400 gm of cocaine.
