Kendrapada, Mar 25 (UNI) A 40-year-old woman saved her son and niece while they were taking bath in Kharasrota river but drowned herself.
Police said one Pratima Rout, a resident of Dandisahi under Aul block, had come to her father's house at Kandia village under Rajkanika police station along with her son and niece to observe Holi.
According to the villagers, the woman after playing Holi went to take bath in the nearby Kharasrota river along with her eight-year-old son Ashis and 13 year old niece Sarathi.
When the mother and the two children were taking bath in the Kharasrota river, the children were swept away in the river current, but the woman used her presence of mind and rescued both of them from drowning.
However, she failed to save her own life and drowned in the mid- stream.
Her body was fished out from the river, which the police later sent for autopsy.
