MLAs, ex-MLAs to get more benefits in Goa
Panaji, Mar 25 (UNI) Law and Legislature Affairs Minister Dayanand Narvekar today introduced a bill in the Goa Assembly, providing for hike in benefits of MLAs and former legislators.
The minister, however, clarified that the government had not yet estimated the additional financial burden on the exchequer as a fallout of the amendment to the Goa Salary, Allowances and Pension of Members of the Legislative Assembly Act, 2004.
The bill envisaged hike in allowances to Rs 26,000 under one head instead of different heads. It will not entail any financial implication.
The bill also provides for paying pension to the dependent family members, after the death of the member, till they attain the age of 25.
The immediate family members of ex-members were also entitled for medical treatment.
Another amendment envisaged payment of a maximum Rs 50,000 to each of the former MLAs, once in their lifetime, for purchase of either a laptop or a desktop, the cost of which would be borne by the legislature secretariat.
