Shillong, Mar 25 (UNI) Forty soldiers of the Assam Rifles were today honoured by Meghalaya Governor S S Sidhu for their gallantry and meritorious service to the nation during 2007.
A sniffer dog, Dinesh, was also awarded for his explosives detection skills during Road Opening Duties which had saved many lives.
The investiture ceremony was held at the Raj Bhawan, wherein the Governor conferred President's and Governor's police medals to the personnel of the oldest para military force in the country.
After presenting the awards to the Assam Rifles personnel, Mr Sidhu lauded the history, ethos and traditions of the senior most para military force of the nation, that were at par with the Army.
Acknowledging the role played by Assam Rifles in service of the nation in general and the North East in particular, the Governor said that the AR personnel were playing a crucial role in maintaining stable security situation.
