DRI official in Chennai honoured with WCO award
Chennai, Mar 25 (UNI) Ten customs officers, including one from India, were honoured by the World Customs Organisations (WCO) at Brussels in recognition of their contribution in combating illicit trafficking of drugs and psychotropic substances.
An official release here said Mr A Chandrasekaran, Intelligence Officer of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Chennai, was one of the awardees.
He received the certification, in recognition of his meritorious service in the Customs Administration of India, issued by the WCO Secretary-General.
This was for the first time that services of an official from DRI Chennai were recognised by the WCO.
Mr Chandrasekaran was responsible for confiscating seven kg of Heroin based on his own intelligence and was instrumental in the seizure of 75 kg of heroin and 72 kg of mandrax tablets, which were prevented from smuggling to foreign countries in the recent past, the release added.
