Kathmandu, Mar 25 : Twenty leaders of the Nepali Congress (NC), including former Speaker of Nepal House of Representative, Taranath Ranabhat, have issued a joint appeal for national reconciliation.

The appeal was issued after a meeting held at the residence of founding leader Krishna Prasad Bhattarai.

"Whether constitutional monarchy or republic; secular or Hindu nation; unitary or federal state, to make decisions on these national issues without weighing the public opinion is a direct affront to the people and undermining of national interest," the appeal said.

According to nepalnews.com, the leaders have reminded the NC to remain steadfast about national reconciliation as propounded by late Bishweshwar Prasad Koirala.

Meanwhile on Monday, top leaders of the Seven Party Alliance (SPA) reached an understanding to strictly check the violent confrontations and forceful activities of their cadres during election time.

The leaders discussed issues related to the violation of the code of conduct and agreed to cooperate with each other to make sure that the April 10 Constituent Assembly elections are held fairly and peacefully.

The leaders said the main focus of the meeting was on minimising violent clashes among the party cadres in various districts.
