Srinagar, Mar 25 (UNI) About 137 kg of charas and poppy husk has been seized in south Kashmir during two different operations today, official sources said .
They said, acting on a specific information police at Pulwama recovered poppy husk weighting 129 Kilograms from a vehicle at village Nownagri.
Driver of the vehicle Mehraj-uddin Matta has been arrested, they said.
Jammu and Kashmir police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in a joint operation put up a 'naka' at Sarnal in Anantnag district of south Kashmir following a tip off that some smugglers were smuggling out charas from the town.
During the naka, eight kg of charas was recovered. However, the smugglers gave slip to security forces, they said.
Police destroyed charas crops over thousands of kanals of land and arrested more than two dozen smugglers in south Kashmir districts of Pulwama and Anantnag last summer.
