Wife demands dues for State Transport Corp employee

Balasore, Mar 24 (UNI) Wife of an employee of state-owned Orissa State Road Transport Corporation threatened to launch an indefinite hunger strike in front of the Berhampur DTM office, if dues of her husband were not released forthwith.

Nirmala, wife of Kartik Adhikari, a driver of OSRTC, said he he fractured his wrist in an accident while on duty at Berhampur three years back.

Nirmala said despite several appeals to the authorities, neither the dues were released nor was he given any medical assistance. On the contrary, her husband was removed from service.

She said her husband was arrested by the Andhra Pradesh government after the accident. Later, his injuries developed into cancer and now posed a threat to his life, if the affected portion was not amputated.

She said she hardly had any money to treat her husband adding that despite running to the Berhampur DTM office a number of times the gratuity, provident fund and pension were not released.

Nirmala said she had no money to treat her husband and after her husband became invalid, she had been trying to make ends meet by running a tea stall.
