UNDP funded biomass gasifier plant commissioned in K'taka
Bangalore, Mar 24 (UNI) To help rural community residing in remote areas with better access to electricity, UNDP, in association with the Centre and the Karnataka Government today commissioned a 500 kva biomas gasifier plant at Boregunte village in Tumkur district, about 120 km from here.
Funded by Global environment facility of the UNDP, the plant, which uses carbon neutral biomass to produce electricity for villages in the area is the second unit commissioned under this project.
Speaking after signing the MoU with the village panchayat president Siddagangamma, Mr Dervis, an official of the UNDP said it wanted to contribute towards rural energy production that helped environment protection and overall global management of climate by bringing down the greenhouse gas emission.
Stating that he was impressed by the local community involvement, the UN official said the technology used in this village would improve further and hoped that this kind of project would contribute to rural development in India.
''We want to learn from this experience and follow it up in other parts of the world,'' he said.
