Chennai, Mar 24 (UNI) The toll in rain-related incidents in Tamil Nadu rose to 27 today -- including 11 men, six women, five boys and four girls -- even as Chief Minister M Karunanidhi reviewed the flood situation in a high-level meeting at the State Secretariat.

Reports received at the police headquarters here said fresh deaths were reported from Chengam in Vellore district, where two people were buried alive when a portion of the earth caved in.

A report from Villuppuram said a woman was struck dead by lightning while at work in a paddy field, taking the toll to 27.

The report said about 24 goats were perished in rains at Pudupattinam in Nagapattinam.

Meanwhile, southern districts of the State, which were lashed by heavy rains during the last couple of days, were likely to receive fresh spells of rainfall as a new trough of low pressure had formed over the Gulf of Mannar.

Mr Karunanidhi had announced an immediate allocation of Rs 100 crores for flood relief works on March 22.

During today's meeting, the officials briefed him about the relief measures being implemented in the flood-affected districts.
