Hyderabad, Mar 24 (UNI) Alleging that the Andhra Pradesh Government has failed to control the damage of crops in heavy rains lashing the state for the last three days, the opposition Telugu Desam Party (TDP) today demanded that the government purchase chillies from the affected farmers by paying Rs 3,000 per quintal.
Speaking to newspersons here, TDP President N Chandrababu Naidu said the chilli growers were badly affected due to unseasonal rains in the state.
They should be protected from debt trap and the damaged chillies be purchased from the affected farmers immediately, he added.
Demanding that the govenrment also conduct a study of the damaged crops and provide compensation to all farmers, Mr Naidu said the TDP would send teams to study the damage to crops in the affected districts.
The TDP chief alleged that Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy was giving priority to his native Kadapa district by sanctioning huge funds forgetting the plight of the backward regions.
