Special security battalion to protect VVIPs in Orissa
Bhubaneswar, Mar 24 (UNI) The Orissa government is contemplating to raise a special security battalion to protect the VIPs, VVIPs, threatened people and vital institutions, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik told the Assembly today.
Replying to a question of Mr Tara Prasad Bahinipati (Cong), Mr Patnaik said the government has planned to raise the battalion keeping in mind the naxalite problem.
Details of the battalion were being worked out, he added.
Replying to a supplementary raised by BJD member Arun Sahu, the Chief Minister said the unscheduled visit of AICC General Secretary Rahul Gandhi to a village during his recent visit to the state was not covered by the advanced liasoning security arrangement.
The state Home Secretary had already informed the Union Home Secretary about it.
