Punjab govt to revive all cooperative sugar mills
Chandigarh, Mar 24 (UNI) The Punjab government will finalise a plan for the revival of all nine sugar mills in the cooperative sector in the state.
This information was given in the state assembly by Cooperatives Minister Capt Kanwaljit Singh while replying to a querry by Sarabjit Singh Makkar (SAD), who wanted to know whether there was any plan to increase the crushing capacity of the Cooperative Sugar Mill at Bhogpur.
Capt Singh stated that a revival proposal of Rs 865 crore was in place and would be submitted to the state Cabinet for clearance very soon. He said that under this proposal, the existing capacity of all the nine cooperative mills would be increased.
The plan also includes cogeneration of power from the mills and manufacturing ethanol. He said that the plan is to turn the sugar mills into sugar complexes.
