New Delhi, Mar 24 (UNI) Taking exception to the ''hamhanded'' approach of UPA Government in taming the spiralling prices, the BJP today said wholesale price based inflation index at 5.92 per cent had breached the comfort zone.
BJP spokesman Rajiv Pratap Rudy said the country is still to tide over the severe bout of inflation on August 2007 and the latest galloping of prices regarding essential items like rice (25 per cent increase), sugar (six per cent) edible oil (32 per cent), fruits and vegetables and most household items had doubled. The prices of steel had registered in increase of 30 per cent while that of cement had touched all time hight.
He said the spiralling of prices of essential commodities are taking place at a time which Dr Manmohan Singh, an eminent economist was at the helm of the government. The rising inflation coupled with a faltering economy left no room for government to tinker with the fiscal policies and the worst is yet to come, he remarked.
