HC cancels bail granted by lower court
Chennai, Mar 24 (UNI) The Madras High Court today cancelled a bail granted by a lower court to former AIADMK MP, K C Palanichamy in a cheating case filed by Central Crime Branch (CCB) Chennai.
The CCB, registering a cheating case to the tune of Rs 78 crore, on a complaint by three NRI's, arrested Mr Palanichamy on January 5 and remanded him to judicial custody.
The Additional Chief Metropolition Magistrate, Egmore granted him a conditional bail.
The CCB moved Madras High Court with a Writ appeal and sought to cancel the lower court order.
Justice M Jayapal allowed the appeal and ordered cancellation of the bail granted to Palanichamy.
The Judge said he was surprised about the lower court granting bail to Palanichamy, especially when the investigation is in a preliminary stage.
