Itanagar, Mar 24 (UNI) Arunachal Pradesh Governor General(Retd) J J Singh has stressed on the need for regeneration of depleted forest in the state and urged the concerned authorities to initiate necessary measures in this regard.
Official sources said here today that the governor said this during a visit to Van Vigyan Kendra (VVK), a research forest range at Chessa near Sonajuli villae in Papum Pare district on Saturday.
Expressing concern over the deforestation in the area following the jhum cultivation, the former Army chief asked the district administration and forest department to take necessary steps for afforestation and encourage the locals to cultivate medicinal plants.
Interacting with officials of the department, the governor urged them to transfer the benefit of the research works for the institute to the common people and appealed the department to utilize it to uplift the rural economy.
