Islamabad, Mar 24: All judges detained by President Gen (retd) Pervez Musharraf during emergency were today released on the orders of Pakistani Prime Minister-elect Sayyed Yusuf Raza Gillani. ''I order the immediate release of detained judges of the superior judiciary,'' Mr Gillani told the National Assembly, shortly after it overwhelmingly voted for him to become prime minister. The judges were released immediately after Mr Gillani's statement.

Mr Gillani, a top member of the party of assassinated former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, said, ''I will ask the National Assembly to pass a resolution calling for investigation by the United Nations into Bhutto's murder.'' Supremacy of Parliament and adherence to the Constitution and restoration to the rule of law were necessary to strengthen democracy in the country, he said, adding, ''Our country will work for safeguarding all national institutions. We will respect Opposition and take all political parties along in the Parliament.'' Mr Gillani would be administered oath tomorrow as the 15th Prime Minister of the country.
