Congress defends two cabinet ministers
New Delhi, Mar 24 (UNI) The Congress party today said there was nothing unconstitutional in two party ministers continuing in the Union Cabinet though they were not re-nominated after the expiry of their term in Rajya Sabha.
"We will follow the Constitution in letter and spirit," AICC Spokesman Abishek Manu Singhvi told mediapersons, while pointing out that they would have to be a member of either the Lok Sabha or the Rajya Sabha within six months.
"What is constitutionally prescribed cannot be legally, politically or morally incorrect or erroneous," he maintained.
Asked if the Central Pay Panel recommendations would be implemented in such a way as to influence the voters in the forthcoming elections, Dr Singhvi said the commission was a quasi judicial body headed by a retired Supreme Court.
"Appointment of pay commissions and submission of recommendations are a regular feature and it has nothing to do with elections," he said.
