Chennai, Mar 24 (UNI) BJP Tamil Nadu unit president L Ganesan today urged the State Government to take up relief and rehabilitation measures in flood affected areas on a war-footing.
Talking to newspersons here, he said the government should estimate the damage caused to the standing crops and properties and expedite the relief measures without waiting for the fund allocation from the Centre.
He further urged the Centre to adopt a model system for crisis management like the one adopted during the natural calamities in Gujarat.
To prevent wastage of flood water, Mr Ganesan demanded construction of checkdams and deepening of existing dams in Tamil Nadu.
Under crop rotation scheme, the Union Agricultural Ministry also had to come forward to issue insurance cover to the affected farmers in addition to flood relief assistance of Rs 4,000 per individual.
